They are different questions with different inputs, so the app labels them differently — a quiz result never pretends a face was measured.
What the quiz questions actually measure
Face structure
Questions about face length, jaw and cheekbones stand in for the proportions the photo analysis would measure directly. They are coarse, but they are the same axes.

Colouring and contrast
Hair colour, skin tone and eye colour do not decide a match, but they change how strongly a pair reads as similar. They act as a tie-breaker, never as the main signal.
Because the answers are self-reported, the quiz measures how you describe your own face, not how your face is proportioned. That is the honest limit of a quiz, and the reason the photo path exists.
Reading a quiz result next to a photo result
Running both is the fastest way to see what each mode is good for.
- They agree. Your description of your face matches what the photo measured. Nothing is proved, but the result is at least consistent.
- They disagree. Usually the quiz was answered from memory and the photo was taken at an angle. Fix the photo before assuming the quiz is wrong.
- Neither feels right. Your face may sit outside the roster's coverage, or the photo may be too soft to measure. Try daylight and a neutral expression.
When the quiz is the better choice
The quiz wins in three situations: you are on a device without a camera, you do not want to upload a face at all, or you are running it with someone who is not in the room and cannot take a photo on the spot. In each case the photo path is blocked for a practical reason, not because the quiz is more accurate.
Why the quiz result is free
The quiz runs on your answers alone, so it costs us nothing to produce and it is free and complete: three pairs, the reasons, and a share card. Only the photo analysis carries a credit, because only the photo analysis calls an image model.
